JINHA reporter Filiz Zeyrek sentenced to 15 months in prison

JINHA reporter Filiz Zeyrek has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and the execution of the sentence has been suspended.

The trial of Women's News Agency (JINHA) reporter Filiz Zeyrek has resumed at Adana 2nd High Criminal Court today. Zeyrek was accused of “making propaganda for a terrorist organisation” for participating in a demonstration “against drugs, prostitution, agencification and assimilation” in the southern province of Adana in 2013.

Two other people tried in the same case, Bilal Ak and Mahmut Atak, didn't not attend the hearing where their lawyers were present.

Zeyrek, Ak and Atak were given 10 months prison sentence each for “making propaganda for a terrorist organisation” and 5 additional months for “opposing the law on meetings and demonstrations”.

The court board has suspended the execution of the prison sentences given to each of the accused.
