The Agencia Prensa Rural reported on Sunday that journalist Fred Núñez, of the alternative media Colectivo Brecha has been seriously injured during clashes between riot police and peasants in Tibú.
The journalist, says the agency, was wounded twice, first with a deafening bomb thrown at close range by the riot police and after that he was wounded again in the head with a rock, at a moment when clashes between riot police and peasants outside the town of Tibú had been started again.
Prensa Rural also adds that during the peasant mobilizations, several journalists have been attacked by the riot police. Once they were threatened by the policemen: "If you keep on recording, we´ll break your legs". Fred had already been attacked by the riot police just a few days ago. The alternative media have been fundamental to create awareness in the people about the tragedy of Catatumbo, about those who resist and fight for the dignity of this region.
