Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) launched judicial process against the statements of Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Co-Chair Gültan Kýþanak who reacted to PM Erdoðan’s insults and accusations during the BDP Group Meeting on 31 January.
The Turkish General Staff published a statement on the subject on its website which said that; “Legal process has been launched in relation to the “You can’t manage to lead three generals” expression of a political party administrator in a speech at party group meeting.”
In a speech at the most recent party group meeting, Kýþanak reacted to Erdoðan’s insults on BDP as follows; “It is a great political immorality to lie to the people. The real ignorance is to describe the Kurdish issue as terror and to intend to solve this problem ‘through violence and pressure’. The real ignorance is to ignore the demands of people, to fail to understand what democracy is and to believe that a political problem can be settled with tanks. We are candidates aiming to be under the command of the people and to realize their demands. It is not we but you who think that you can herd people like sheep by deceiving them. However, you cannot lead even three generals.”
The General Staff had also filed a criminal complaint against BDP Co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaþ on 17 January for his statement where he referring to the Chief of Defence Staff Necdet Özel said that; “You are not more worthful than noncommissioned officer in the eyes of us”.
On the other hand, Demirtaþ had on 2 January filed a criminal complaint against the Chief of Defence Staff Necdet Özel for “influencing judicial authorities” and “making statement for political purpose”.
Many journalists, writers and academicians also filed a criminal complaint against the Chief of Defence Staff Necdet Özel on 23 January for “influencing judicial authorities” and “making statement for political purpose”. The intellectuals’ petition to Supreme Court of Appeals remarked that Özel’s interviews to papers constituted a crime and demanded an investigation into his statements.
