BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) MP Hasip Kaplan has strongly voiced his party's worries about the last operation against journalists and media workers. "All those political detentions are being carried out as part of a concept activated not by the judiciary but the government", said Kaplan.
The BDP deputy labeled political detentions as a "civilian coup". He was referring to the latest wave of detentions in the probe into the Kurdish Communities Union (KCK).
“What happened on Tuesday - he said referring to the detention of 42 reporters and media workers - is nothing short of a civilian coup".
The BDP Deputy Group Chairman also underlined that the operation aims to "bully and silence free media and opposition press organizations and render them ineffective".
Kaplan added that "All those political detention operations are being carried out as part of a concept activated not by the judiciary but the government." Referring to the general who led the 12 September 1980 military coup in Turkey, Kaplan said that the AKP "is trying to finish the job started by Kenan Evren and the fascist junta".
