Karayılan: Join the YPG for a professional defence of Kobanê

PKK Executive Committee member Murat Karayılan, has reiterated the call by Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan for a mobilisation to defend Kobanê, issuing a call to: "join the YPG and become a well trained soldier".

PKK Executive Committee member Murat Karayılan spoke to ANF regarding the intensive attacks launched by ISIS on the region of Kobanê in West Kurdistan on 15 September. Karayılan warned that if support is not given to the resistance led by the YPG, massacres similar to those that took place in Sinjar could occur. He said that ISIS is endeavouring to capture Kobanê using the US and Russian weapons it has seized in Iraq and Syria. Karayılan said: "therefore, action must be taken immediately to prevent such a disaster. Everyone must do what they can."

Karayılan emphasised that Öcalan's call for mobilisation was valid, adding that the international powers had done nothing to assist the revolution in West Kurdistan, saying: "They are only giving weapons to their own supporters."

Karayılan added he was not opposed to support being given to the peshmerga, saying: "they should support them, but we have not heard of any support for the people and resistance in Sinjar."

Some of the messages given by Karayılan are as follows:

-The people of Kobanê are in the firing line and today are waging all out resistance, but they have received no support. As a movement and people we support this resistance and there are other Kurdish parties also lending their support.

-The esteemed people of Kobanê should realise that in order to succeed against ISIS they must join the YPG in order to receive professional training and become more effective, well trained fighters.

-The people of the north have provided support. They have put up tents and sent food, but they have not offered strong support. I call on the youth of the North to go and participate as fighters. (...) There is a need for a well trained particiaption in Kobanê in order for the resistance to prevail.

-A second reason for these ISIS attacks on Kobanê is the fact there are Free Syrian Army forces there as they have joined an alliance with the YPG and decided on a joint resistance. It is clear that ISIS is very afraid of this.

-With this conflict in Kobanê Turkey's role will become clear. It will act like a mirror, demonstrating Turkey's real position.

-We have heard that Turkey has deployed troops to the border. There is also information regarding munitions being sent to the border by train and direct assistance being given to ISIS. This is serious.

-There is mention of the Turkish state implementing a no-fly zone and establishing a buffer zone. If this is true it would be very dangerous.  Establishing a buffer zone would mean the occupation of Kurdistan.
