In an address to the people of Kurdistan, KONGRA-GEL Co-Chair Remzi Kartal said that the people of Kurdistan, especially in the Serhed region (North Kurdistan), should defeat the ruling AKP in the May 14 elections.

‘AKP WAS DEFEATED BY ÖCALAN AND THE GUERILLA RESISTANCE’

Kartal said: “The AKP-MHP government run by Erdoğan has established a new system. They put everything under the control of the government. Their aim was to break the will of the Kurdish people and to eliminate their achievements. They wanted to break the will of Öcalan and the resistance of the guerrilla. For this purpose, they allied with some treacherous Kurds. However, they failed. Because Öcalan has been resisting isolation for 25 months. Furthermore, they attacked the guerrilla troops using all kinds of banned bombs, including chemical weapons. Despite all the attacks ongoing since April 14 last year, the Turkish army has not achieved its goals. They were defeated in Zap, Avaşîn and Metîna. Because of this war, Turkey is going through a major economic and political crisis. The latest earthquakes killed thousands of people as a result of the late response of the AKP government in the affected region. This is how the AKP rules the country.”

'WE SHOULD ENSURE ELECTION SAFETY'

Kartal continued: “The elections will offer an opportunity to defeat the fascist regime. The elections will not only bring a defeat of the AKP, but also pave the way for a democratic and free country for the Kurds and other minorities. For the Green Left Party to be represented broadly in the parliament, our people should go to the polls with great will. They should also encourage others to go to the polls. Everyone should work non-stop. Here I am calling on the Kurds and Turkish people: we must unite and secure election safety on the night of May 14. No matter what happens, we must not leave the polling stations to count the votes. We know that they came to power by rigging the last elections. We should not allow fraud in this election.”

‘AKP SHOULD BE DEFEATED IN THE CITIES of SERHED’

Kartal said that he was content with the enthusiasm created by the Green Left Party and democracy forces. He said that “the current atmosphere is very positive. Everyone should contribute to it. Our peoples in Kurdish cities and big cities should stop all their work and focus on the elections. The atmosphere and the enthusiasm are promising.”

Addressing the voters in the Serhed region, Kartal said: “Especially the cities of the Serhed region should play their role in this period. The AKP should not receive votes in these cities. Of course, the same holds true for all cities in Kurdistan. But in Van, Hakkari, Ağrı, Iğdır and Muş, the Green Left Party must win more deputies.

We know that the AKP regime played big tricks against the people of Van. Our people should vote for the Green Left Party to seek revenge against this regime. They should defeat the AKP in Van by winning all 8 deputies. This defeat must be a historic defeat.”
