KCDK-E co-chair Fatoş Göksungur has visited the 14 Kurdish activists on hunger strike in Strasbourg. The activists are on their 138th day of fast: they are politicians, journalists, lawyers and members of the Freedom for Öcalan Initiative. The activists said to be determined to continue their action despite the worsening of their health conditions. 

Kurdish patriots and representatives of institutions from different countries of Europe continue to visit the hunger strikers to give them support and solidarity.

The European Democratic Kurdish Society Congress (KCDK-E) co-chair Fatoş Göksungur was among those who visited the activists on Thursday. She met with the other co-chair of the KCDK-E, Yüksel Koç, who has joined the hunger strike since day one. 

Göksungur: The whole people is being targeted

Göksungur said that it was a difficult process for her and reminded that 7 thousand prisoners are on hunger strike. 

Göksungur said she wanted to be the voice of the hunger strikers and make their demand to be listened to because isolation was not only imposed on Öcalan but on the whole people.

Göksungur pointed out that the isolation policy is part of a policy of oppression and intimidation against all peoples and pointed out the need for all peoples, especially Kurds, to increase resistance.

Noting that the mass actions and diplomatic work in the institutions have reached a certain level, Göksungur said that the hunger strike resistance has reached places as far as Latin America. 

The KCDK-E co-chair called on people to show sensitivity and added: “It's important to understand what our friends on hunger strike feel and what this action means. It is a bit difficult for us to understand them before we build empathy.”

Göksungur said that the struggle against isolation is a long-term struggle. “We will never accept this situation and we will bring isolation to an end.”
