In a written statement, the European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E) said: “The Turkish state wants to carry out a new massacre against the institutions and defense forces created by our Yazidi people in Shengal. Dictator Erdogan wants to realize his plans with the help of the Iraqi government and the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP). The agreement reached between Baghdad and Hewler (KDP) on October 9, 2020 is a project to occupy Shengal (Êzdixan) and to massacre the Yazidi people.

Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar discussed the attack against Shengal with the Iraqi government during his visits to Iraq and Hewler. Following the visits, on March 10 the Iraqi Central Government asked the Shengal Security Forces to “leave the city and lay down arms within 24 hours". The UN, Iraq and KDP, which left Shengal vulnerable to ISIS assaults, now want to 'free' Shengal from those who defend and protect it and to put it under the control of a network of surrender and betrayal.

The Shengal Autonomous Council (MXDŞ) administration issued a statement on March 10 and said the following:

‘Since the defeat of ISIS in Shengal, many conspiracies have been organized against the people of Shengal. When our people returned to their homes and lands, their situation improved and they began to reorganize their lives. The people of Shengal now have a self-government that defends their own land. We want to govern and protect ourselves. This is not against the Iraqi Constitution.

The Baghdad-Arbil Agreement forces us to accept slavery. This agreement says, "We do not accept your existence, we do not recognize your identity." They openly say to us, "The Yazidi should leave their homeland." We reply, "You have not served the people of Shengal until now." You only prepared conspiracies against the Yazidi people. '

The whole world should know that we will never admit injustice. We will not give up our demands, our land.’

The Yazidis demand freedom, autonomy and want to defend themselves. This is a legitimate and incontestable demand. Suppressing legitimate demands by force, ignoring the democratic will created with a lot of effort, sacrifice and cost, rejecting people’s will and trying to establish hegemony in defiance of the people is a fascist and inhuman understanding."

As the KCDK-E, it is our call to all our people and friends; With the spirit of mobilization against this sinister, dirty and murderous politics, let's stand up wherever we are, let's flock to the streets. Let’s stop further massacres against Shengal and our Yazidi people with the actions we organize everywhere! Let's say: The day is the day to protect Shengal!"
