‘KCK’ main trial began in Diyarbakýr

The 30th hearing of the trial against 152 Kurdish politicians and human rights activists has begun at Diyarbakýr 6th High Criminal Court. The earlier trial on 12 December was adjourned for once again ending in a Kurdish defense crisis. The court is expected today to continue with giving of evidences against Kurdish politicians who have so far been denied to express themselves in their mother language Kurdish.

Among the Kurdish politicians tried today are former DEP MP Hatip Dicle, Van MP Kemal Aktaþ, Þýrnak MP Selma Irmak as well as Batman Mayor Necdet Atalay, Kayapýnar Mayor Zülküf Karatekin, Cizre Mayor Aydýn Budak Viranþehir Mayor Leyla Güven, Suruç Mayor Ethem Þahin, Kýzýltepe Mayor Ferhan Türk, ÝHD (Human Rights Association) Deputy Chair Muharrem Erbey and Gün TV General Broadcast Coordinator Ahmet Birsin. Intense security measures were taken around the courthouse while the politicians were brought to the court with ring vehicles. Police blocakded the area and tediously searched all the people who attended the trial.

More than 100 lawyers are attending the trial at Diyarbakýr 6th High Criminal Court.
