Kemal Kýlýçdaroðlu is the new leader of the CHP (Republican's People Party). As expected he has been elected president with an overwhelming majority. began his address Saturday with a commitment that shows how he might capitalize on the strong support he has received from Turkey’s main opposition party: 1,189 delegates out of 1,197 have voted for him.

The new leader addressed the convention in a calm, reassuring tone: “We are coming to power. We are commencing our long march. We are running for power.”

The address was warmly received by the delegates who chanted and clapped many times during the speech. Kýlýçdaroðlu focused on “labor and peace.”

Ahmet Turk, former co-chair of the banned DTP (Party of the Democratic Society), who attended a march in Van to ask the end of the military operations, said that "we are ready to talk with the CHP if they will show to be really serious about peace. We are ready for dialogue. We are ready to work together for a solution".
