KESK committee: Fires in Dersim must be put out at once

As the Turkish state starts another forest fire in the Kutudere region in central Dersim, a KESK committee observed the burning areas in the city and stated that this is a crime against humanity.

A committee from the Public Workers Unions Confederation (KESK) observed the Avgasor Valley, Bali River, Mushkirek village, Rengul hamlet, Kartan area, Sincik Mountain, Xoshiruk Mountain, Dikenli-Mahmut village and the Garipusagi area where forest fires have raged on for 6 days.

The damage the fires have caused can be seen with the naked eye from a distance.

The committee returned to Dersim city center and held a press statement in the Seyit Riza Square. KESK Secretary General Ramazan Gurbuz said September 1 World Peace Day has come at a time of a violent spiral and added that the forest fires are not undergrowth fires and that it is a serious matter that they are not being fought.

“CRIME AGAINST HUMANITY”

Gurbuz said the forest fires in Dersim constitute a crime against humanity and stressed that the AKP wishes to leave the people without air to breathe.

“It is not just the trees that are burning, the living beings in the forest, sacred spaces and history also burn,” said Gurbuz and mentioned the laws to protect forest areas.

Gurbuz called for the urgent putting out of the fires.

KUTUDERE BURNING

Meanwhile, the Roj River in the Kutudere region of central Dersim has been bombed since Friday night by the Turkish army. The bombs started a forest fire in the region, and the fire has reportedly spread to a large area. There has been no intervention yet.

People who wanted to go to the burning area were prevented by the Turkish soldiers.
