KESK (Confederation of Public Workers Unions) Secretary General, Emirali Þimþek has pointed out that the government hasn’t taken any step to address and solve urgent issues regarding workers.
Þimþek said “Our four confederations have to keep their promise to Turkish workers turn the 26 May action into a general strike".
KESK, DÝSK (Confederation of Revolutionary Trade Unions), Kamu-Sen ( Public Workers Union) and Türk-Ýþ (Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions) had put the workers urgent needs into words and wanted the government to make a step. They had announced that if the government did not answer, they would stage a one day action. After this decision only KESK started to move to organise this action on 26 May, while Türk-Ýþ, DÝSK and KAMU-Sen didn't. While DÝSK is supporting the day strike, Türk-Ýþ and Kamu-Sen call for a 2 hours strike or a different type of action. Although Türk-Ýþ maintain its position, other unions are actually working for the day action.
At the meeting of these four confederations Wednesday, it was decided that each confederation would have a consultation within its union and then the four will come together for a final decision.
KESK Secretary General Emirali Þimþek spoke to ANF. He reminded its union call for the government to address workers' issues and said that “because, the government has taken no step aimed at the solution of the issues we have to keep the promise we made to the workers and call for a strike”
