Two days ago the Turkish Minister of the Interior declared that a fire had broken out on the prison island of Imrali. Until today it is still unclear what happened on the island and how the four prisoners Abdullah Öcalan, Ömer Hayri Konar, Veysi Aktaş and Hamili Yıldırım are doing. Since August last year there has been no sign of life from them, they are completely isolated from the outside world.
Kurdistan Women’s Communities (KJK) pointed out in a statement that everything that happens on Imrali has a political background. Because of its own distress and helplessness, the AKP government is in a mode of attack, said the KJK and continued: "This fact is shown by the provocative statements of the fascist Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu on the fire on Imrali on February 27. The island is a high security area of the Turkish state. If a fire has broken out there, it was intentional. Any development on Imrali is political. It is planned and contains a message. The message shows us once again that the extermination plans against our leader, the Kurdish people and the women as a continuation of the international conspiracy are intended to be implemented even more violently. This is the message that is being sent.”
The KJK pointed out that Abdullah Öcalan has made extraordinary efforts for a democratic and peaceful solution of the Kurdish question in spite of the isolation torture he has been subjected to for 21 years: "He says that the Turkish-Kurdish brotherhood that has existed for a thousand years can be continued in a strong way if the existence and will of the Kurdish people are recognised. This is a great gain for Turkey. He also warns that the Turkish state’s insistence on animosity against the Kurds will lead to unprecedented losses.”
Erdoğan has led Turkey into the worst economic, military and social crisis in history with its aggressive expansionist policy, according to the KJK, which continued: "It is no longer able to solve any problem. The AKP government is therefore in free fall. The Kurdish liberation movement has proven that it cannot be wiped out by force and oppression.”
KJK stressed that the Kurdish people’s hope for freedom and resistance are intended to be destroyed through the person of Abdullah Öcalan. With this policy, however, the government cannot save itself from losing power, it said.
KJK called for broad resistance against the annihilation policy of the Turkish state; “This struggle for existence will determine further developments. Especially the people in Northern Kurdistan should take to the streets. They should show where they stand. We have nothing more to lose. Not only press statements should be made. Also the Kurds in Rojava, in the south and the east (of Kurdistan), in Shengal, in Europe and Russia should manifest their stand."
KJK also called on the Kurdish women to raise the situation of Abdullah Öcalan in the activities for the Women's Day of struggle on March 8.
