Making a statement on the hijacking act, Kocaeli Governor Ercan Topaca said that “The important thing now is to reveal the connections and contacts of the people involved in the action. Searches and investigations continue for this purpose - he added - while the initial findings strengthen the probability of a single man action. Yet, we haven’t reached an exact conclusion so far. I hope the event doesn’t have a connection with terror and we conclude that it is a solitary action".

There is still uncertainty about the identity of the hijacker. Some reports name him as Emrah Kaplan from Diyarbakýr while others name him as Mensur Güzel, born in Kulp (Diyarbakýr) in 1984.
