KOMAW calls for support for Yazidi people amid ongoing attacks on Şengal

KOMAW condemned the attacks on Şengal and the silence of international forces, calling on the Kurdish people to side with the Yazidis.
In a written statement, the Association of Families of the Missing and Martyrs (KOMAW) recalled that the Yazidi people survived the 74th massacre, in a reference to the notorious genocide attempt of ISIS in 2014 in Şengal.
"During these genocidal attacks, it was the YPG and HPG that came to save our people and prevented a genocide in Şengal,” the KOMAW said.
“YPG and HPG forces, the freedom fighters of the people of Kurdistan, fought heroically against ISIS. They sacrificed their lives and became martyrs to save our Yazidi people from genocide.”
In the eight years following the liberation of Şengal, the Yazidi people have reorganized themselves in defence, education and economy and established a democratic autonomous system, said KOMAW and further stated the following:
“Al-Kadhimi, Erdogan and his ally KDP administrators, who are the leaders of the reactionary and invading regional states, consider a free, democratic and peaceful common social life based on the self-government of our people as a threat. On May 1 night, they launched an attack to complete what ISIS left unfinished as part of a well-organized plan.
It is obvious that these powers do not recognize self-government based on the free will of peoples, organizing murderous religious groups such as ISIS and continuously attempting to target people’s achievements.
In short, not only Baghdad, Ankara and Hewler administrations are responsible for these genocidal attacks against the Freedom Movement and achievements of the entire Kurdistan people. The global hegemonic powers that support and ally with these governments are equally responsible. Some of them were present in the Şengal Agreement dated October 9, 2020. The task was officially given to the Ankara, Baghdad and Erbil administrations under the supervision of the US and UN representatives. Moreover, almost no hegemonic states or powers rejected this genocide agreement and they remained silent!
KOMAW condemns these genocidal policies and calls on all the patriotic people of Kurdistan to side with the brave people of Şengal.
We also urge global humanitarian institutions and organizations not to remain silent and indifferent towards these barbarian aggressors. They should support the just struggle of the people of Kurdistan, particularly our Yazidi people, and protect the right of our people to live freely in peace.”
