The start of the armed struggle of the Kurdish liberation movement on 15 August 1984 is considered as a milestone in the Kurdish society and is celebrated as "Day of Resurrection ". On the occasion of the 36th anniversary, the Kurdish association in Meschede in the northern Sauerland region raised a flag in the colours of green, red and yellow. A German flag and the flag of the Muslim umbrella organization Civaka Îslamiya Kurdistan CÎK (German Islamic Society of Kurdistan) was also hoisted up a pole. The ceremony was observed by dozens of people. Afterwards, the celebration was extensively celebrated in the association's premises. The musical program was provided by Peywan Arjîn, Narînxan, Welat Medenî and Koma Heval, among others.
In the Altonaer Volkspark in Hamburg a picnic took place on the occasion of 36 years of Kurdish liberation struggle. After a minute's silence for the martyrs of the freedom movement, Şadiye Küçük and Imam Cömert, co-chairs of the Democratic Kurdish Community Center (DTKM), addressed a few words to those present. The speeches emphasized that "the first shot" was also directed against the enslavement. Govend was then danced to revolutionary songs by Ozan Siyabend.
The 15 August celebration in Heilbronn was organised jointly by Kurdish and German groups. Politician Emin Êlih said that the guerrilla initiative of August 15 was directed against the political motto of the Turkish state, - "Kurdish rebellions are best solved by embedding the Kurds". Singer Hozan Cömert said that "the first shot" opened a new page in the history of the peoples of the Middle East.
A film about the development of the PKK from a group of students around Abdullah Ocalan to a national liberation movement was shown at the DKTM in Duisburg during a ceremonial event.
