Kurdish parties and organisations in Europe call for the clarification of Xelifan incident

Several institutions and parties from Kurdistan call on the people and parties of Kurdistan to embrace the national interests of the Kurdistan people in a spirit of national unity and resistance against Turkish occupation and massacre policies.

In a written statement on 7 September, the Press Centre of the People’s Defense Forces (HPG-BIM) reported that a five-person guerrilla team was attacked by reconnaissance aircraft in the Balisan Valley. 3 guerrillas were martyred and 2 others were injured during the attack, said the HPG, calling for the incident to be clarified.

Releasing a written statement about the incident, the Kurdish parties and organisations in Europe stressed that protecting the national interests of the Kurdistan people is about opposing the occupation and genocide policies of the Turkish state and other colonialist states in Kurdistan.

The statement released on Saturday includes the following:

“We are all aware that the Turkish state, dreaming of Neo-Ottomanism, seeks to occupy and annex the so-called Misak-ı Milli (National Pact) territories extending from Aleppo to Mosul and Kirkuk. In order to occupy the whole of Kurdistan, the Turkish state develops the most vicious methods. Seeing this, all the people and parties of Kurdistan should take sides with national interests. This is both a national duty and the only way to defend Kurdistan.

For this very reason, the resistance put up by guerrillas in Zap and Metina is a national resistance for protecting the gains and future of the Kurdish people against the occupation of Kurdistan. The invading Turkish state attacks not only the guerrillas, but all the values and achievements of the Kurds. Every person, institution and party from Kurdistan should embrace this resistance to protect the gains in Bashur and Rojava, and to guarantee the freedom struggle in other parts.

The freedom guerrillas come under attack in non-battle zones in South Kurdistan every time they achieve a great success against the occupation plans of the Turkish state.  The first attack of this kind occurred on 26 July 2021, the second on 29 August 2021 and the third on 5 September 2022. These attacks, on which light is yet to be shed, claimed the lives of 12 freedom guerrillas.

We join and support the call of the HPG for the clarification of the latest incident which resulted in the martyrdom of three guerrillas and injury of two others after a drone attack in Balisan Valley. According to reports, KDP forces intervened in the scene after the incident and gunshots were heard. Reports also say that the two injured guerrillas were taken away by the KDP. Our main demand is that light be shed on the incident and the detained guerrillas be returned to their units.

It is understood that the enemy was provided with local information on three occasions and it is a duty of the Asayish and the KDP peshmergas that dominate the area to clarify it. The occupation attacks of the Turkish state can only be frustrated through the joint struggle and solidarity of all forces in Kurdistan. This is a shared national duty. Those who still provide the enemy with information and assistance are condemned by our side, and urged to stop it.

As the Kurdish institutions and parties in Europe, we believe that this incident must be investigated and clarified. In addition, the handover of the two injured guerrillas will not only strengthen intra-Kurdish dialogue but also frustrate the vicious policies of the Turkish state. To avoid doing this will harm the achievements of Kurdistan and pave the way for Turkish occupation and massacre in Kurdistan.

We, the undersigned institutions and parties from Kurdistan, call on the people and parties of Kurdistan to embrace the national interests of Kurdistan people in a spirit of national unity and resistance against the colonialist Turkish state’s occupation and massacre policies in Kurdistan.”
