Habibollah Golparipour is a Kurdish political prisoner on death row. On 12 May he went on a hunger strike. According to Rahana internet site, the Kurdish man said to the judge threatening him with speeding up his execution if he did not end his hunger strike.
Habibollah Golparipour, a native of the Kurdish city of Sanandaj, was recently found guilty of Moharebeh by the Revolutionary Court in Mahabad and sentenced to death according to Articles 186 and 190 of the Islamic Penal Code.
On May 12, 2010, Golparipour went on hunger strike in Mahabad prison to protest his death sentence as well as his detention conditions.
During a recent meeting, the case judge threatened Golparipour, telling him that his death sentence would be carried out if he did not end his hunger strike.
In response to the judge’s threats, the Kurdish activist said, “I know that I will be executed soon, therefore I will end my own life in order to shame you, even after my death.”
Golparipour is reportedly in critical condition. His lawyer Ehsan Mojtavi has objected Golparipour’s death sentence verdict but has yet to receive a response to his appeal.
