Kurdish politician Mülkiye Birtane jailed

Yet another Kurdish politician has been imprisoned under the AKP regime of the Turkish state.

Mülkiye Birtane, a member of the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Council and former MP of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), was taken into custody in a house raid operation in Amed (Diyarbakır) province on November 26.

After the detention, Birtane was taken to Kars province where she had her testimony taken at the prosecutor’s office. She was then referred to court which ruled her imprisonment for alleged “membership to an illegal organisation”.

Necdet Karadağ and Tuncer Ömeroğulları, who had been detained together with Birtane, were also remanded in custody for the same charges, while two other people were released after giving their testimonies.
