Tensions rose on the campus of Ege University in the western province of İzmir yesterday evening after a nationalist group attacked the HDK (Peoples' Democratic Congress) stand opened by Kurdish students.
A person from the racist group was killed and three Kurdish students were injured in the conflict which erupted as the group attacked the students with knives and cleavers.
According to a crisis desk set up by lawyers affiliated to Libertarian Lawyers' Association in the wake of the incident, three Kurdish students were injured and three others were detained by police. One of those taken into custody is also reported to have sustained a serious injury. The detainees have been taken to anti-terror branch of İzmir police headquarters.
