Kurds in Milan met with Antigone association

Verdolin remarked that providing a system that allows a transparent monitoring of the situation in prisons is especially important for countries like Turkey and added: “We will deal with this issue and we will do our best.”

Members of the Kurdish Committee in the city of Milan had a meeting with the Antigone association to share information about the isolation of Abdullah Öcalan, the general situation in prisons, human rights violations and the hunger strike resistance.

The Kurdish delegation made a statement after speaking with Valeria Verdolini, representative of the Prisoners’ Rights Association in the region of Lombardy.

Verdolini said: “I have listened to Kurds living in Milan, and we discussed the challenges of living in Turkey.”

As an institution, Verdolini said that they were very sensitive to prisoners’ living conditions.

"That is why it is very important to observe the conditions in prisons at all times," she said, quoting the famous Russian writer Dostoyevsky who said: "A society's degree of civilization is measured with prisons."

Verdolin added that providing a system that allows a transparent monitoring of the situation in prisons is especially important for countries like Turkey and added: “We will deal with this issue and we will do our best.”
