Kurds protesting for Öcalan all over Europe

All over Europe, people from Kurdistan are taking to the streets and protesting the lack of information about Öcalan’s health conditions and security.

LIVERPOOL

In Liverpool, the North West Kurdish People’s Assembly organized a demonstration. About hundred people protested in order to express their concern about Öcalan’s health conditions and in order to promote his freedom. They pointed out that Öcalan should be given the chance to meet with an independent delegation, and with his family and lawyers, saying; “We are worried about the health conditions of our leader. And we will continue until we hear from him.”

NOTTINGHAM

In the North of Nottingham, the Democratic Kurdish People’s Assembly organized a public protest in which demonstrators staged a march from the Kurdish Society Centre to the Market Square. A statement read here criticized the AKP-MHP-DAESH fascism and pointed out the freedom of Öcalan is necessary for the peoples in the Middle East and the world.

RENNES

Around 150 Kurdish and French demonstrators came together at the Republic Square in Rennes in order to call attention to the health condition and security of Abdullah Öcalan. The demonstration was joined by the French Peace Movement, the Communist Party and the Breton Kurdish Friendship Association. The statement pointed out that all concerned institutions should take action as soon as possible for an immediate end to the aggravated isolation of the Kurdish leader.

ROME

In the ancient city of Rome, Kurds protested for the freedom of Öcalan. During the protest that lasted for about 2 hours, attention was directed to the Erdogan’s dictatorship and his fascist policies towards the Kurds.

OREBRO

At the Våghustorget Square of Sweden, people from Kurdistan and their affiliates came together waving flags of Abdullah Öcalan, the PKK and the KCK.

In the name of Orebro NCDK, the protesters damned the isolation forced on Öcalan. Regarding their concerns about Öcalan’s health conditions, demonstrators called upon institutions such as the international Committee for the Prevention of Torture to deal with his case and visit him on Imrali.

Their main slogans were “Freedom for Öcalan, Status for Kurdistan”, “Murderer Erdogan”, “Fascist Turkey” and “Turkish Army, get out of Kurdistan”.

BORLANGE

Protesters in the Swedish city of Borlange called for an immediate end to the isolation of Öcalan and called for his right to see his family and lawyers. The event taking for about two hours entailed slogans such as “Fascist Turkey”, “Turkish Army get out of Kurdistan”, “Take your bloody hands off Öcalan”. Also, the protesters distributed leaflets about the cause of their demonstration to the passers-by around.

GOTEBORG

In the Swedish city of Goteborg, people from Kurdistan and their supporters waved a banner reading “You will never darken our sun”. They also waved flags of the PKK, the KCK and banners with Öcalan’s image. The protest ended with a sit-in.

A speech given by NCDK called attention to the aggravated isolation of the Kurdish leader for more than 2 years, stressing that Kurds will never be silent on threats against him.

The protesters also called upon the Swedish government to take action. Their slogans were “Fascist Turkey”, “Turkish Army get out of Kurdistan”, “Take your bloody hands off Öcalan” or “Öcalan speaks for the people, and the people are here”.

HELSINGBORG

In the Swedish city of Helsingborg, Kurds staged a demonstration in order to call for Öcalan’s freedom and to condemn the policies of the Turkish state against the Kurdish leader and people.

Their slogans were: “Fascist Turkey”, “Freedom for Öcalan”, “Turkish Army get out of Kurdistan”, “Murderer Erdogan”, “Erdogan, give account for what you did”. The protesters also called on the Swedish Government and the European Union to deal with their concerns about Öcalan’s health condition and put pressure on the Turkish state to provide information on his situation.
