Kürkçü: Attack on HDP in Uşak is police-backed

HDP İzmir MP candidate Ertuğrul Kürkçü said the attack on HDP in Uşak was carried out by not local people but an outside group backed by police.

A delegation of the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) has held talks in Uşak where yet another provocation and attack took place against the party on May Day.

HDP İzmir MP candidate Ertuğrul Kürkçü who came to Uşak together with HDP Ağrı MP Candidate Halil Aksoy, said the attack on the party was carried out by not local people but an outside group backed by police.

Tension rose in the city on May 1 as a racist group attacked HDP members and supporters on their way back to the party office after May Day celebrations.

In a statement following a meeting with Governor Seddar Yavuz, Kürkçü said they had talked with the governor about the essentialness for all political parties to enjoy all their rights and freedoms in their political struggle and campaign.

'Police backed the assailants'

Mentioning the police role in the provocation, Kürkçü said; "We know where we are living and struggling. In this regard, we have no difference of opinion with the governor, but the major problem is about the attacks we are facing while performing our political activity. In this most recent attack in Uşak, there is a matter of police support to the assailants. A complaint will be filed to denounce police backing in the attack."

'An outside group carried out the attack'

Kürkçü remarked that the attack on HDP group was carried out by an outside group, adding; "There is not a local but an outside intervention. Uşak is a place where we can feel free. Our works will continue."
