Speaking at the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) group meeting, party co-chair Gültan Kýþanak said it is a great ignorance to dismiss a big sociological issue like the Kurdish issue as a matter of "terrorism". She added that PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan must be provided with suitable conditions enabling him to play his role in the peace process. "Conflicts like ours - she addeed - have been solved trhough dialogue and negotiation elsewhere in the world. Turkey has no option but to choose this way".
Kýþanak also noted the KCK (Kurdistan Communities Union) operations were planned and directed by the government and added: "In the past these jobs were assigned to illegal gangs, people were being murdered. Today the assignment is given to the police and the judiciary, people are being imprisoned". She also reminded that currently 14 mayors, more than 140 elected representatives and more than 6,000 BDP members and chairs are in prison.
Kýþanak said the Democratic Society Congress (DTK) which recently declared a "national unity against oppression, cruelty and isolation" policy represented the will of the people of Kurdistan and stressed the Kurds wish to preserve their identity, culture and language.
Kýþanak called the Roboski Massacre where 34 civilians were killed in air raids on December 28 "a crime against humanity" and said: "The ruling government has still not answered for the Roboski massacre. The privacy decision on the investigation file must be canceled immediately and all information must be shared with the public. The public needs to see the truth."
