Lawyers against repression in Barcelona
Today is the day of the endangered lawyers.
In Barcelona the lawyers will hold a press conference at 2pm in front of the Turkish Consulate (Passeig de Gràcia 7). The lawyers will be wearing their work outfit and will deliver a letter and petition to the Turkish authorities.
At 7pm at the Journalists college in Rambla de Catalunya 10, there will be a round table. "Two dangerous professions: the situation of journalists and lawyers in Turkey.
Alicia Oliver Rojo, president of the solidarity journalist commission will introduce the round table. Speeches by journalist Ulus Atayurt (Express) and by lawyer Selcuk Kozagacli (lawyer in the KCK case).
Marion Hohn Abad, president of the Catalan association for Human Rights Defense will coordinate the panel.
Three European lawyers associations the European Democratic Lawyers (AED-EDL) the European Association of Lawyers for Democracy & World Human Rights (ELDH) and the European Bar Human Rights Institute (IDHAE), which together represent lawyer’s associations all over Europe, have decided to promote greater public awareness of the severe situation of lawyers in Turkey on the Day of the Endangered Lawyer. For this reason lawyers in different European countries will protest in front of Turkish Embassies and Consulates.
The Day of the Endangered Lawyer is an initiative which was started by AED-EDL in 2010, on behalf of the lawyers of Iran .
