Lawyers Mahmut Alýnak and Mehmet Ayata were released after being taken into custody on November 22 in an operation which brought to prison over 40 lawyers of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan. The two have been taken into custody once again, last night.
It is understood that Istanbul Prosecutor ordered the new arrest of lawyers Alýnak and Ayata, as well as Yalçýn Sarýtaþ (a lawyer) and Sebahat Zeynep Arat (a secretary of the Century’s Law Office) in the context of the KCK (Kurdish Communities Union) case.
Alýnak, a former Member of Parliament, made a written statement just two hours before being taken into custody in Istanbul. He said “Goodbye. I’ll be in prison when you read this letter.”
He also accused PM Recep Tayyip Erdoðan of “acting as a dictator building an empire of fear.”
Alýnak compared the ruling Justice anda Development Party (AKP) to the Pol Pot Regime in Cambodia, Russian Tsar Ivan the Terrible, Ayotollah Khomeini in Iran or Somoza in Nicaragua, Idi Amin in Uganda and added that “there is no difference with the AKP policy and these regimes since Erdoðan suppress every dissenting voice and institution.”
