Lawyers apply for 'urgent meeting' with Öcalan

Lawyers of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan have once again applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor Office and the İmralı Prison Administration demanding an “urgent meeting” with their clients.

Lawyers of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan; Nevroz Uysal, İbrahim Bilmez, Mazlum Dinç and Serbay Köklü have applied to the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and the İmralı Prison Administration to request an “urgent meeting” with their clients.

Kurdish leader Öcalan has been held under aggravated isolation in the Imrali High Security F-Type Prison since he was captured in an international conspiracy in 1999.

The last contact with Öcalan was made by a phone call with his brother on March 25. The phone call was interrupted shortly after for no apparent reason.

Abdullah Öcalan's lawyers met with their clients on May 2-22, June 12-18 and August 7 in 2019 after 8 years. Since August 7, 2019, all applications have since remained unanswered.

In the meantime, it came out that two new bans were imposed on Öcalan when the lawyers applied for an “urgent meeting” to a court in Bursa province on November 22. The Bursa court rejected the application, citing a 6-month ban on Öcalan dated on October 12 as the reason.

The court also rejected the application of families to visit their relatives in Imrali prison, citing a decision of the Disciplinary Board of the İmralı Prison Administration on August 18, which banned family visitations for a period of 3 months.
