Lawyers of Abdullah Öcalan file new application for visit

The excuse of the "lawyer's ban" is over. However, there is still no news from Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan. Lawyers will apply once more today.

There has been no news from Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan for over a year. Abdullah Öcalan had a phone call with his brother Mehmet Öcalan on 25 March 2021. The call lasted a few minutes and was then interrupted. His lawyers last visited him on 7 August 2019.

On 22 November 2021, lawyers of Asrın Law Office applied to Bursa Execution Judge for an "urgent meeting" with Öcalan and the other prisoners in Imralı, Ömer Hayri Konar, Hamili Yıldırım and Veysi Aktaş.

However, the judge rejected the application, citing the 6-month ban on lawyers' visits imposed on Abdullah Öcalan on 12 October. The ban on lawyers’ visits ended on 22 April. However, Abdullah Öcalan has still not been allowed to meet with his lawyers. No answer was given to the lawyers who applied for a visit on 26 April.

Lawyers will re-apply to Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office and Imralı Prison Directorate today.
