KCDK-E Bashur wrote to UN Iraq Representative Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert about the attacks on Shengal and called for the end of the war.
Women from the Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress (KCDK-E) Bashur (South Kurdistan) branch wrote a letter to Jeanine Antoinette Plasschaert, Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq, calling for an end to the conflict in Shengal.
Detailing their demands, the women from KCDK-E stated in their letter, "The people of Shengal do not want to be persecuted any longer; they will resist even if it costs their lives. Self-government and self-defense are the most legitimate rights of Yazidis."
According to Rojnews, KCDK-E Bashur’s letter to Hennis-Plasscheart reads as follows:
"We demand an end to the conflicts between the Shengal security forces and the Iraqi army. This conflict benefits only Turkey and the Barzani family. The Yazidi people do not want their intervention. The Yazidi people have a self-government in order to maintain their right to live in peace. You should get in contact with Shengal women, ask them questions, and talk to them. Because it will be your responsibility should a conflict break out in Iraq. The Iraqi people are opposed to such a war.
The people of Shengal do not want to suffer more atrocities, they will fight to the end. Is it so difficult to understand that they are struggling to defend their existence? We look forward to your decision for peace."
