Long March set to arrive in Strasbourg

The Long March “Freedom for Ocalan, Political Status for Kurdish People”, is just 70 kilometers from Strasbourg where tomorrow there will be the final meeting.

Along the path of freedom and protest in the cities of Switzerland and France, the protesters are now close to Strasbourg, where tens of thousands of Kurds from allover Europe will join them in a major rally to manifest their support and loyalty with the Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan and the Kurdish Freedom Movement the PKK.

Activists moved yesterday morning towards the French town, Colmar, and marched another 25-30 kilometers in minus degrees. Along the road, at short breaks, they were provided with tea, chocolate, biscuits, nuts and sandwiches. 200 of the activists have been in the march since the beginning, in the early days of February.

Kurdistan Cultural Association held a concert in the evening where local artists, Hozan Bejan, Hozan Evindar Hawk War, Hozan Yaman and Simar Group Ela, performed music and theater. All the marchers participated in this event and the evening ended with Kurdish folklore dance and songs.

There has also been communication with Kurdistan via phone and online communications services such as Skype. In these conversations with associations and communities in Kurdistan the marchers have been able to express their motives and ambitions with the Long March in interaction with the Kurdish people in Amed, Merdin and Nisebin.

Today the marchers will walk to the European Parliament and a present a document regarding their demands and conduct meetings.

On the 18th of February the marchers will lead the central mass march and salute the people on stage where a speech will be delievered on behalf of the marchers.
