Long March starts in Greece

A "Long March" also started in Greece. From the self-administered refugee camp Lavrio, the protesters walk to the city center of Athens. They demand an end to the Turkish attacks and the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.

Initiated by the Kurdish youth movement as part of the "Come to the Freedom Offensive" (Wêrin Cenga Azadiyê) campaign, marches lasting several days are taking place in six European countries. The marches are directed against the Turkish attacks on all four parts of Kurdistan. The activists demand the freedom of the Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The long march in Greece started in the self-governed refugee camp Lavrio and is expected to reach the city center of Athens within three days. Several hundred people are taking part in the demonstration. Banners read "Come to the freedom offensive against betrayal and invasion" and "Defend Kurdistan". The participants walk under pictures of Abdullah Öcalan and flags of the PKK.

After a minute of silence, the action began with a public statement. The statement expressed solidarity with the guerrilla resistance against the Turkish invasion of the southern Kurdistan regions of Metîna, Zap and Avaşîn and emphasized its importance for the freedom of Kurdistan. The participants called on all parts of society to resist the aggression.

The march then began, with the crowd changing slogans such as "Bijî Serok Apo" (Long Live Leader Öcalan) and "Bijî Berxwedana Gerîla” (Long Live Guerrilla Resistance). Residents in Lavrio showed solidarity with the protests. In the evening, the march will complete its first stage in Marco Paoulo to continue to Palania on Tuesday. The activists are expected to arrive in Athens on June 1.
