Long-term prison sentences against Kurdish politicians upheld

The Turkish Court of Appeal has upheld the long-term prison sentences against 118 Kurdish politicians in the main case against the alleged "Turkey Council of the KCK". Affected are, among others, HDP deputies Leyla Güven and Pero Dündar.

A week ago, Turkish Supreme Court of Appeal issued its ruling regarding the verdicts made against 154 people in the scope of the 14 April 20019 dated operation against Kurdish politicians on charges of involvement in ‘KCK/Turkey Council’. Today, the Court upheld the sentences given in 118 other cases.

HDP MPs also sentenced

HDP deputies Pero Dündar and Musa Farisoğulları have been sentenced to nine years in prison each for "membership in a terrorist organization". HDP MP and DTK (Democratic Society Congress) Co-chair Leyla Güven was sentenced to six years and three months in prison for the mentioned charge.

BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) Co-chair Kamuran Yüksek, Hüseyin Yılmaz, Salih Akdoğan, Senanik Öner and Bayram Altun were sentenced to 21 years, Seda Akbaş Can to 18 years for "leading a terrorist organization".

The court upheld further nine-year prison sentences on "membership in a terrorist organization" charges

in the case of Hasan Hüseyin Ebem, Abbas Celik, Zülküf Karatekin, Nadir Bingol, Ahmet Erdem, Cibrahil Kurt, Yurdusev Özsökmenler, Mehmet Hatip Dicle, Nihayet Taşdemir, Pınar Işık, Elif Kaya, Yüksel Baran, Pelgüzar Kaygısız, Sara Aktas, Zahide Besi, Adil Erkek, Mahmut Okkan and Burhan Karakoç.

The court upheld six years and three months prison sentence for Demir Çelik, Mehmet Tari, Hasan Fırat Üner, Hasan İraz, Celal Yoldaş, Fırat Anlı, Selim Sadak, Hüseyin Kalkan, Songül Erol Abdil, Ethem Şahin, Emrullah Cin, Fikret Kaya, Aydın Budak, Leyla Güven, Gülcan Şimşek, Nuran Atlı Söyler, Abdullah Akengin, Şeyhmus Bayhan, Ahmet Zirek, Engin Kotay, Kerem Duruk, Esma Güler, Özlem Yasak, Rojda Balkaş Akyüz, Ramazan Ödemiş, Ramazan Debe, Muharrem Erbey, Tuncay Ok, Ahmet İlan and Mustafa Doğru.

In addition, the court upheld six years and nine months' imprisonment against Mustafa Ocaklık, Abdurrahim Tanrıverdi, Osman Ocaklık and Nazim Çağlak.

Politicians Zübeyde Zümrüt, Serdar Ziriğ, Murat Tuğrul, Mehmet Güzel and Mehmet Aksünger were sentenced to prison terms of between four years and eight months and five years and seven months.

The 15 months prison sentence for the suspended co-mayor of Mardin, Ahmet Türk, was also upheld.

The Court on the other hand approved acquittal verdicts for Ebru Günay, Kutbettin Kurt, Hüseyin Bayrak, Haci Erdemir, İhsan Uğur, Selahattin Elçi, Bahri Çeken, Yaşar Çelik, Hasat İnatçi, Rahmi Özmen, Siracettin Irmak, Servet Özen, Kazım Kurt, Galip Kandemir, Yaşar Sarı, Arslan Özdemir, Roza Erdede, Zeynep Boğa, Hacire Özdemir, Bedriye Aydın, Takibe Turgay, Nizamettin Onar, Beyhan Sakin, Veysel Yıldırım, Hanifi Yönten, Adnan Bayram, İhsan Sevitek, Seyithan Şen, Mehmet Deviren, Mehmet Nesih Çağlar, Seyithan Haran, Mahmut Polat, Hüsamettin Çiçek, Mehmet Nesip Gültekin, Aygül Arat, Resul Erkaplan, Abdulserdest Tan, Abdullah Aflatun, Abdurrahim Dağ, Abdulhalık Katar, Abdulgaffur Şen, Ekrem Elbat, Gülistan Dehşet, Semih Sencer, Ali Genç, Necla Kormaz, Ahmet Cengiz, Atilla Koca and Mesut Aydın.

The Court overturned the 18 and 21 year prison sentences ruled on charges of “administering a terrorist organization” for Ahmet Birsin, Mehmet Taş, Çimen Işık, Zöhre Bozacı, Turan Genç, Herdem Kızılkaya, Mehmet Akın, Mehmet Nimet Sevim, Lütfi Dağ, Kemal Aktaş, Necdet Atalay, Mazlum Tekdağ, Mikail Karakuş, Olcay Kanlıbaş, Ali Şimşek, Ümit Aydın, Ahmet Makas, Sinasi Tur, Abdullah Demirbaş, Tuncay Korkmaz, Ercan Sezgin and HDP MP Tayip Temel.

Likewise, the Court of Appeal overturned the verdicts on "membership of a terrorist organization" against Veysi Akar, Türki Gültekin, Ahmet Ertak, Mesut Çetin, Ferhan Türk and Önal İsmail Öner.

Previously acquitted Heval Erdemli, Zeynel Mat, Sabahattin Dinç, Abdullah Bozkoyun, Mehmet Salih Yildiz, Alaattin Aktaş, Fethi Suvari and Ali Oruç are to stand trial again, ruled the court.

The proceedings against Nadir Yıldırım, Alican Önlü, Dirayet Taşdemir, Besime Konca, Selma Irmak, Ahmet Yıldırım, Osman Baydemir and Çağlar Demirel, whose case files had been separated in consideration of their political immunity at the time of the indictment, will be continued at Diyarbakır Heavy Penal Court No.2.
