March in Sirnak to protest attacks on celebration
A demonstration will take place today in Þýrnak to protest the attack which injured 12 people during the victory celebrations. Botan People's Initiative called people to participate in the action.
Making a statement about the attack and provocations, Botan People's Initiative had a harsh reaction against the Tatar family, saying; "The Tatar family, which formerly represented Ottoman regiments and which is still a version of the Ottoman regiment, is the Kurdistan representative of the village-guard system."
The statement of the Initiative is as follows; "While Mehmet Tatar and his tribe is on the side of the government and its cruelty, Mehmet Tatar's son Serdar Tatar pulls a gun against the protests of the Kurdish people which are their democratic right. Security forces, remaining silent against this and nearly encouraging, are the responsible for the explosion. Once again this mentality and the men of Mehmet Tatar, in cooperation with the police, were charged as poll officials and caused many injuries attacking our observers. Unable to stand the election results and the achievement of the Kurdish struggle for freedom, these persons pulled guns against the Kurdish people with the guns given by the state. Botan people were attacked due to the honorable stance they displayed to avoid provocations and cheating during the elections. Botan people were directly targeted with a bomb attack while flocking into areas to celebrate the victory. While about 20 people got injured at the explosion, several are still in critical condition. The long-hostility of Mehmet Tatar and his family to the freedom movement came to the open in the election process. We notice Mehmet Tatar and his team, who declared hostility to the freedom movement and to our people despite numerous calls of our movement, that they will not get away with what they did."
Calling on Tatar and his family to abandon this "hostile" attitude and to apology from the people, Botan People's Initiative said; "The end has come for this mentality which leans back on the system. The people of Botan in particular, we are calling on all democratic powers to present their reactions to this dishonorable attack."
The initiative called on people to join the protest demonstration at 14.00 in front of the BDP district building while calling on shopkeepers to close their shops.
