Memorial for Hrant Dink in Hamburg

The crowd gathered in front of the monument for Hamburg citizens who died in the First World War.

Journalist Hrant Dink was commemorated in Hamburg on the 13th anniversary of his murder.

The memorial, organized by Hrant Dink's friends living in Hamburg, was held in front of the Hamburg Parliament.

Lawyer Mahmut Erdem said that the territory of Anatolia and Mesopotamia is a cradle for intellectuals and progressive people as well as the cradle of civilization. Erdem emphasized that the policies of genocide carried out against the Armenian people in the past are being imposed on the Kurdish people today.

Hasan Burgucuoğlu, Die Linke Altona district committee, said that the mentality that killed Hrant Dink is still in power today. He added that it is hurting to see that the murderers of Dink have not been punished.

Alevi Community President Cengiz Orhan emphasized that Alevis, intellectuals and Kurds are victims of pressure, and said that this persecution and harassment can only be overcome by getting together and unite against it.

Greens Deputy Yusuf Uzundağ said that his family survived the Dersim genocide by chance, and that he knew the pains and tragedies of the Armenian people as a child of a family who witness the genocide closely.

"I always felt close to the Armenian people," Uzundağ said, adding that genocide should not happen again.

ATIK Representative Abidin Özmen said that although 13 years have passed since the assassination of Dink, the truth hasn't been reached yet.

A big photo of Hrant Dink was displayed at the memorial and candles were lit in memory of all victims.

Saxophone artist Cemalettin Zeyrek played "Sari Gylani", an Armenian folk song.

Ozan Direnç sang two songs in memory of Hrant Dink.

Carnations were thrown in the Alster lake in memory of all victims, especially Dink and Sevgat Balıkçı.
