Including BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) mayors, provincial and district chairs and representatives of civil society organizations, thousands of people gathered at Þehitlik Mosque in Diyarbakýr today to bid farewell to HPG guerilla Mensur Güzel who was executed on the ferry Kartepe he hijacked on 11 November to call attention to the isolation of Kurdish people’s leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Following the funeral ceremony in the mosque which had been surrounded by police and armed vehicles, the mass was attacked by police when preparing to take the body to Yeniköy Cemetery for the burial.

While a person was injured with a gas bomb thrown by police, many women fainted and fell ill as a result of the police attack with gas bombs and pressure water in the mosque and the surrounding area.

Police blockade continues in the area where the mass has again gathered following the conflicts.
