European Parliament deputy, Arne Gericke, called on the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to investigate the torture suffered by dozens of people in Halfeti.
Arne Gericke, from the Bündnis C German Christian party recalled that among those tortured in Halfeti were children aged 13.
Quoting the statements by HDP deputy Ayse Acar Basaran and human rights organizations, Gericke asked for the immediate release of the people detained.
“This barbarity - he said - is done by a state that is officially a EU and NATO partner. How is it that people in the EU remain silent against this crime?”
Gericke also called on the CPT to open an urgent investigation into the issue.
