On the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Lausanne, which divided Kurdistan into 4 and four parts, Kurdish parties and institutions continue to express their criticism against it.
One of the members of the Lausanne Conference Preparatory Committee to be held on 22 and 23 July 2023 is Meran Merawdali, the representative of the Goran Movement.
Merawdali, who was a teacher in Kurdistan and settled in Germany, worked in non-governmental organizations for a long time. Merawdali, who is currently the European representative of the Goran Movement, stated that the Kurds should now achieve national unity and called for participation in the two-day conference to be held in Lausanne.
Merawdali said that the Turkish state has been carrying out massacres and genocide in Kurdistan for years, and added that they have enough documents to get the Turkish state prosecuted in international courts.
Merawdali said: "Lausanne means massacre, genocide, plunder, assimilation. Of course, on the other hand, Lausanne also means resistance and rebellion.
The Kurds are one of the ancient peoples of Mesopotamian territory. International powers should know that even though we are divided into four parts, the Kurdish people are one nation. National unity is the dream of every Kurdish person. For this, the Kurds must be organized around national unity, national solidarity and a common discourse. We must work to get through the 100-year-old dream of the Kurdish people.
We Kurds should work on two points. First, let us tell the international community that the Kurdish people are one nation in four parts of Kurdistan. Nobody is an Iranian Kurd, an Iraqi Kurd, a Turkish Kurd, a Syrian Kurd. Because the Kurds are one nation. The second issue is that every Kurd should see himself as a citizen of the four parts of Kurdistan."
We should not make the mistakes we made in the past
Merawdali underlined: "We have thousands of articles, images, videos, pictures. The Turkish state has created its existence through massacres of Kurds, Armenians, Assyrians and Alevis since its establishment and even during the Ottoman period. These massacres still continue today. It has recently bombed and occupied North Kurdistan. It also occupied Rojava cities such as Afrin, Girê Spî and Serêkaniyê.
We see the invading face of the Turkish state on every field. By revealing these documents, we can ensure that the Turkish state is tried in international courts. We can tell about these massacres committed by the Turkish state. We must provide this with more than 150 party and institution representatives and many lawyers, writers and academics. There are many international human rights organizations and institutions in Geneva. Of course, we also have many political parties and non-governmental organizations. If we work together, we can have an impact on these international organizations. Thus, we can ensure that the Turkish state is prosecuted in an international court for the massacres and genocides it has inflicted on peoples, especially the Kurds. The way to do this is about us coming together and becoming a united force. Finally, as we leave a century since the Treaty of Lausanne behind, we should not make the mistakes we made in the past in the new century. The Kurds must establish their own alliance."
