Mercosur Progressive Group expresses solidarity to the HDP

The Progressive Group within ParlaSur, the legislative body of Mercosur, the economic union of Latin American countries, expressed solidarity with the Kurdish people facing continue oppression.

Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and suspended member Venezuela from Latin America's common market Mercosur Parliament (ParlaSur) sent a message of solidarity to the Kurdish people against the appointment of trustees to Amed, Van and Mardin municipalities.

"The Progressive Group within ParlaSur - said the statement - expresses its solidarity with the Kurdish people and voters who have been deprived of their elected representatives in the municipalities of Amed, Mardin and Van by Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan."

The Progressive Group reminded that "in recent days HDP deputies Garo Paylan and Ebru Günay met with our institution and our parliament in the framework of their tour to Latin America and exposed the violation of human rights taking place in Turkey and the repressive policies carried out there. As a result of these repressive policies, HDP Amed co-mayor Selçuk Mızraklı, Mardin co-mayor Ahmet Türk and Van co-mayor Bedia Özgökçe Ertan were removed from their charge."

The Progressive Group emphasized that they are siding with the HDP and the Kurdish people against the oppression and said: "We declare our solidarity with the Kurdish people. In the framework of our dialogue with the HDP representatives in this crisis created by the Government of Turkey, we will continue to monitor the situation and we reiterate our support for measures to overcome this crisis."
