Following the reports of severe clashes and bombardment from local sources in Cudi area, Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) on 8 January announced a protest act in the area of military operation on Cudi mountains. ‘The BDP is ready to display their reaction to end the war and ongoing operations’, said BDP Deputy Co-chair Selahattin Demirtaþ and called on the region’s people to the operation area to display democratic popular acts.
The people in the region are worried and concerned about new bombardments and deaths after the experience of Kazan Valley slaughter where Turkish army killed 37 guerrillas with chemical gas on 19 October 2011. One other bitter experience has been the Roboski slaughter where 35 civilians, mostly children, were targeted by F-16 warplanes on 28 December 2011.
Following the reports on the military activity in the areas of Cudi and Besta, Þýrnak Governor on 8 January afternoon made a statement and denied any operation or clash in the area.
However, the reports of local sources and the remarkably increasing military shipment into the area point out to an extensive military operation.
Making a statement upon the developments, BDP Co-Chair Demirtaþ said that they suspended going to the operation area until the reports on operations become clearer. “We don’t consider the reports we received as an ordinary information pollution. We are searching into the situation there”, said BDP Co-Chair and added that the developments in the area would be followed closely from their side.
