Mine explosion leaves one child dead in Hakkari

Fourteen year-old Muğdat Çavmak was severely injured as a result of a mine explosion near the village of Bostancık (Gulort) in the region of Dostki, 30 km away from Hakkari's Yüksekova district, on Friday.

According to the reports received, the mine explosion occurred on Raman Hill where mobile military posts are installed every year by the Turkish army. The boy was in the area to pick beetroots.

Villagers in the area rushed the boy to Yüksekova State Hospital where he however lost his life, not responding to the treatment he received.

The Public Prosecutor of Yüksekova has launched an investigation into the mine explosion.
