Ministry has yet to answer Öcalan's demand of treatment
The Turkish Ministry of Justice has yet given no answer to DTK's (Democratic Society Congress) and TTB's (Turkish Doctors' Union) application to enable the treatment of Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan by an independent delegation of doctors.
PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) leader Abdullah Öcalan asked to be treated by an independent delegation of doctors through his brother Mehmet Öcalan who visited him in İmralı prison on 1 July. Öcalan had complaints of inflammation of throat, nose and mouth.
On 8 July, TTB applied to the Ministry of Health in order to perform the health check of the Kurdish leader. TTB Secretary General Beyazıt İlhan said that the union has received no answer from the Ministry yet. İlhan remarked that they expected to receive a positive answer from the Ministry, as is expected by the public opinion as well, and wished to pay a visit to İmralı prison soon.
DTK Health Asembly also applied to the Ministry of Justice on 10 July demanding the treatment of the Kurdish leader by an independent delegation of doctors from DTK Health Assembly. The Ministry has not replied to DTK's demand either.
