Thirteen people have been taken into custody in Kýzýltepe district of Mardin early this morning.
Detentions came following simultaneous house raids by police teams. While the reason of the operation is not reported, detainees were taken to Kýzýltepe Security Directorate
Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Council permanent member Mehmet Baysal was also taken into custody in Kayapýnar district of Diyarbakýr. Baysal was taken to district security directorate.
On the other hand, 20 people who were on 28 February taken into custody in Cizre district of Þýrnak within the scope of so-called “KCK” operations have been referred to Cizre Court today.
The operation in the district was carried out upon the instruction by the Public Prosecutor of Diyarbakýr.
Separately, university student Ferhat Encü, brother of Serhat Encü who was among 34 victims of the slaughter made by Turkish army bombardment in Roboski village on 28 December 2011, was also detained in Uludere district today. While Encü was taken to Uludere district Gendarmerie Command after the detention by gendarmerie, people in the village gathered in front of Uludere Courthouse to demand Encü’s release.
The Encü family lost 11 members in the Roboski massacre where 34 civilians, including 17 children, died as a result of Turkish warplanes air strikes. While the members of the family have gone through serious psychological problems since the event, Faruk Encü (19) and Özcan Encü has been jailed in Þýrnak Closed Prison on the claim that they were in a group attacking the governor of Uludere Naif Yavuz during his visit to the village, a day after the massacre.
