More skulls found at former JITEM headquarter

Four more skulls have been found in the JÝTEM interrogation base in Ýçkale, Diyarbakýr. So far 19 skulls have been found, a tragic reminder of the horror of that place and of the 1990's. Human Rights Association (ÝHD) Diyarbakýr Branch protested against the obstacles put to their attempts of gathering information about the excavations and said many families of the disappeared applied to ÝHD.

Diyarbakýr Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had started an investigation following the discovery of human skulls during restoration works on 11 January in Ýçkale which was formerly used as Gendarmerie Intelligence and Anti-Terror Unit (JÝTEM) interrogation centre and Sur district detention centre. Diyarbakýr Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had given the number of discovered skulls in its latest statement as 15. It has been stated yesterday that the number increased to 19 whereas ÝHD Diyarbakýr Branch Secretary Raci Bilici said that they received applications from 27 families and that it is unacceptable that the authorities refuse to give information to ÝHD.
