More than 5 thousand signatures collected in Cyprus in a week for delisting the PKK

Activists aim to collect 60 thousand signatures in Cyprus as part of the global campaign for the removal of the PKK from the “terror list”.

The signature campaign launched to remove the PKK from the list of “terrorist organizations” continues uninterruptedly in every city of Cyprus where more than 5,000 signatures have been collected in a week.

Kamil Akal, spokesperson of the signature campaign launched by the Kurdish People's Assembly, revealed that they have collected 15 thousand signatures so far. More than 5 thousand signatures were collected in the last week.

“Our commission for the signature campaign has been working for about 3 months. In fact, the 15 thousand signatures we have collected so far is not a success for us. Our friends made a great effort, but the number we have reached is not enough for us,” Akal said.

"It is a shame for all of us that the PKK is still on that list. The PKK, inspired by Abdullah Öcalan, has shown the whole world that it offers a solution to the democratic, moral and political problems in its struggle against the capitalist system. The isolation imposed on Öcalan by the sovereign powers and the fascist Turkish government, and the attacks on the Kurdistan freedom movement are related to this because Öcalan’s ideology is an antidote to the capitalist system,” said Akal and further stated the following:

“The war in the mountains of Kurdistan is actually taking place between the troops of the capitalist system and the fighters of the democratic, ecological, gender and pro-freedom paradigm. On the one hand, there are the capitalist system forces, who rely entirely on the power of material sources and use all kinds of technology, and on the other hand, there are fighters of faith, loyalty and freedom based on spirituality. Of course, in this war, spirituality will win against materialism and freedom against slavery.

As the commission, we have made our plans keeping this in mind and set a single agenda. We have got rid of superficial and erroneous approaches and understandings in our activities. I can say that we have received a reward for this in the last week when we collected 5234 signatures. We will continue our work picking up the pace. We will do our duty in this process by completing our target of 60 thousand signatures as soon as possible."
