People in Kobanê have marked the International Mother Language Day at the martyrs' cemetery.
“Em zaroken Kobanê dixwazin bi zimane Kurdi”, “Roja cihani ya zımane dayikeli mırovahiyê piroz be” read the banners carried by demonstrators who observed a minute’s silence for all those martyred in the Kobanê resistance.
Speaking here on behalf of demonstrators, Kobanê Saziya Ziman spokesperson Ednan Hesem pointed out that the historic Kobanê resistance also defended the Kurdish language and culture.
Hesem said that: "Our children have today turned back home in order to live in their own lands and use their own language. There can be no life without a language. We have kept our mother language alive despite all the policies it has been targeted by, and we will continue the struggle in order to make sure our children can live using their mother language."
The event ended following a music performance in Kurdish.
