New action by human shields

In response to the increased military operations in the region, the BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) started their ‘human shield’ campaign in the Lice district of Diyarbakir. The second action will take place in Sirnak and it will led by women. Within the context of the action women will be visiting the Mining Gendarmerie Patrol in Sirnak in order to express their peace demands.

To prevent the increasing operations and clashes in the region, BDP started a one month campaign in the Lice district of Diyarbakir. Under the leadership of BDP women assembly, a group of 50 women consisting of the mothers of both soldiers and guerrillas will visit the Mining Gendarmerie Patrol, between Sirnak and the district of Cizre. It has been stated that the women, during the visit, will give their messages. "We are, - said the women - making a great effort in order to prevent other deaths, because we can't tolerate other deaths. A solution can only be reached if the politicians take the responsibility of take action, not the military."

"Democratic solution and peace group" member Emine Sýðat, who is also taking part to the initiative, stated that all the protests which take place are completely peaceful protests. Sýðat explained, “In the visit which we are going to make, we will say that we don't want to see neither soldier, police nor guerrilla mothers crying. We will extend our hand to the military once again for peace. We are going to demand for this war environment to end" Sýðat said and continued adding "This country belongs to all of us, we should not grieve any more. We want to live as brothers and sisters. We as the Peace Group, if it’s necessary will throw our lives in front of tanks for peace and democracy ".

‘We will thrust out our hand for peace’

Zekiye Doðan from the Peace Mothers Initiative said, "For a democratic solution to the Kurdish question, we will visit the Mining Patrol. Nothing can be achieved with killings. Regardless of anything, we will thrust out our hand for peace". Doðan carried on by saying, "We only want to live in peace. There should be no more deaths. We are going to express our demands for a fraternal life together. We especially want the operations to stop. The soldiers and the guerrillas in the mountains are both our children. To say stop to deaths we will thrust out our hand".
