New earthquake hit Van

A 3.5 magnitude earthquake hit the region of Van today at 14.31. The epicenter was in Özyurt village. Shortly after a second quake followed. This time it was a 4.7 magnitude quake and the epicenter was in the village of Çolpan.

The earthquake which struck at a depth of five kilometers caused panic and once again people were forced to stay out of their houses.

Earthquakes and aftershocks continue in the region of Van Lake since the 7.2 magnitude earthquake on 23 October which killed 604 people and damaged as many as 25 thousand buildings. People who had the possibility didn’t hesitate to leave the region which was once more hit by a 5.6 magnitude earthquake on 9 November. This second earthquake killed 40 people.

1400 aftershocks were registered in Van within the first week after the 7.2 magnitude earthquake.  

A total of 47 earthquakes have been registered today in Van between 00.05 a.m. and 14.38 p.m.
