HDP leaders Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli are facing an investigation over their speeches at the congress of the Istanbul Provincial Association of the party.
Istanbul public prosecutor's office has initiated investigations against the two co-chairs of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), Pervin Buldan and Sezai Temelli. The authority accuses the two politicians of "spreading propaganda for a terrorist organisation" on the basis of their speeches at the third party congress of the Istanbul HDP provincial association. The investigation file has already been submitted to Ankara Attorney General's Office, which is to deal with the charges.
Sezai Temelli commented on the new investigations against him and Buldan: "Those who are crushed by their burdens always attack the HDP to hide their machinations. This case shows once again that the judiciary of this country is not independent and is acting on the instructions of the government. Investigations such as these are intended to silence us. But we will continue to be the voice of truth."
Eight people have already been detained and another person is sought in the scope of the same investigation.
