New session of Syrian Constitutional Committee on 24 August

The Syrian Constitutional Committee sessions will resume in Geneva on 24 August. Once again they won’t include the representatives of North and East Syria.

UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen gave general information to the Security Council on the latest situation in Syria and the Syrian Constitutional Committee, which will convene for the third time in Geneva on 24 August.

Pedersen said: “This is a momentous task, to establish a foundational act, a social contract for Syrians, after a decade of conflict and amid deep divisions and mistrust.”

The Syrian Constitutional Committee, which was established during the days of the Turkish state's occupation of Girê Spî and Serêkaniyê, will convene for the third time on 24 August, the anniversary of the beginning of the Euphrates Shield operation, when the Turkish state invaded Syria for the first time.

Since the Autonomous Administration representatives were not included in the previous two rounds of negotiations, no results have actually been achieved.
