Kurds and their friends organized a Newroz event at the Sydney Parliament. The event was hosted by Green Party MP Jamie Parker and Labor Party MP Stephen Honey.
The Green Party, Labor Party, Christian Democratic Party, independent deputies, clergymen, writers and former deputies also attended the event.
Speaking here, deputies Jaime Parker and Stephen Honey said, "Newroz is the day that heralds the arrival of spring for the Kurdish people. Kawa the Blacksmith started a rebellion against the cruel Dehak”, referring to the historical meaning of Newroz.
"Unfortunately, today the Kurdish people are still ignored in their own country. We take sides with Kawa against Dehak oppression," the deputies added.
In their speeches, Democratic Kurdish Community Center (DKTM) co-chairs and the Women's Committee pointed to the victory of Kurdish women against ISIS gangs, saying, "Kurdish women build democracy".
The speakers also raised concerns about the health of the Kurdish Leader, saying, "Abdullah Öcalan should meet with his family and lawyers immediately.
The participants observed a moment of silence for victims of the Halabja massacre. Local artists and a children's folklore team took the stage afterwards.
